Campbell County Training School Complex
A 100 year old site listed on the Virginia and National Historical Registries
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources approved the wording of a historical marker to be erected at our Campbell County Training School site. Jennifer Loux, Highway Marker Program Manager for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources presented the suggested wording on behalf of CCTSC at a June 18, 2020 meeting in Richmond, Virginia. There are several additional steps to be completed before the marker is finalized and ready for installation. The next phase involves a representative from the Virginia Department of Transportation visiting the complex to determine an appropriate display spot. The marker will then be crafted by Sewah Studios, the foundry employed to manufacture all historical markers for the state. When the process has been completed, the official installation ceremony will be scheduled. This milestone was also recognized in a June 19, 2020 press release from the office of Ralph Northam, Governor of Virginia. Campbell County Training School was one of twenty African American historical sites to receive marker approval at the June meeting. The CCTSC volunteer committee is continuing efforts to restore this former Rosenwald school site and greatly appreciates the contributions of all citizens and businesses.
